Our 2nd Spotlight Artist Series with George Schmidt, included in the freshly scent summer Newsletter just out this afternoon and on our website (link in bio).

Local Durango artist George Schmidt is a multi-disciplinary artist primarily working in painting and sculpture. His current work explores kinetic aerial sculptures and sculptural work that explore foundational balance, juxtaposition and somewhat of a geometry exercise in nature.

We caught up with George at his stunning home studio which he built during the COVID era. He gave us a tour of his “tree farm” where he is thinning his property to be fire smart while also harvesting material to feed his current obsession with kinetic sculptures and an interpretation of modern day “totems”. His current work allows him to “manifest a kind of visual dynamism currently playing out in an additional way in a series of kinetic mobiles, where the various parts move and interact in a state of constant flux.”

It’s that time of the year when we open the windows for fresh air, put fresh blossoming branches and tulips on our tables and do the annual decluttering and refreshing, as the environment is waking up. Spring is a wonderful season for bringing some feng shui into our spaces for moving energy and refreshing rooms with intentional open arrangement.
