PG&BL has some exciting news to share with everyone. This is the official press release announcing that Project Gurnet & Bug Light will be receiving ownership of Plymouth (Gurnet) Light.

Community Group Awarded Ownership of Plymouth Light Station:
Project Gurnet & Bug Lights (PG&BL) is pleased to announce that we have received a letter from The Secretary of the Interior.
The letter states that PG&BL is the recipient of Plymouth (Gurnet) Light Station through the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act. The letter concludes by saying, “The commitment of PG&BL to the preservation of our Nation’s maritime heritage...is admirable.”

PG&BL’s Mission Statement: “The purpose of this corporation shall be to operate a non-profit organization which shall be actively engaged in the restoration, preservation, and maintenance of Duxbury Pier Light (Bug Light) and The Plymouth Light Station (Gurnet Light, Fort Andrew, and the Keeper’s Cottage), and to encourage public awareness and support of these unique historic monuments to our nautical past.”

PG&BL would like to share that the contractor will soon resume work on Bug Light. The project has turned out to be more expensive than anticipated, and any contribution toward the restoration would be greatly appreciated. Join PG&BL in bringing Bug Light back to life in Plymouth Harbor.

PG&BL is still waiting to hear from the US Coast Guard about whether we’ve been awarded ownership of the Gurnet Light. In the meantime, PG&BL continues to maintain and preserve it under a five-year lease. Here’s hoping 2026 will be the year!
