I also learned yesterday that another fairly well-known exterior company in the Twin Cities that was purchased by a private equity group is now reportedly in receivership after the private equity group walked away from it. It’s just another reminder to homeowners how important it is to hire local companies that are locally owned and operated — especially in the exterior restoration and remodeling industry.
There’s a tremendous amount of ebb and flow in running an exterior company. After doing this for 23 years, I can honestly say many private equity groups got caught up buying companies during massive storm years and expected those numbers to continue forever. The reality is this business takes long-term relationships, trust, service, and genuinely caring about homeowners and employees.
I’ve thought about selling Evergreen over the years, but more and more I realize I would never want to hand homeowners over to a system where profits matter more than people. Many of our customers become lifelong friends. That means something to me.
My hope for Evergreen someday is a succession plan that keeps the company local and puts it into the hands of someone internally who truly cares about homeowners, employees, craftsmanship, and the community we serve.
