Working nearby our lowbush blueberries, a consistent humming sound can be heard and almost felt this time of year. Hundreds of bumblebees are pollinating the bell shaped flowers that will successfully become the fruits and seeds!

This was the our first germination house where we started experimenting with growing from seed some years ago. At the time we had installed bottom heat and experimented with different lighting set ups as well.

We would grow in 288 cell packs and then transfer them to 50s (plugs) and 4” SP4s…(quarts)

The house was previously set up to do hardwood cuttings during the winter season. Today we were inspecting this new crop of little blue stems for late spring target. No bottom heat, just letting things progress naturally. We can control temp with a propane modine heater if night temps fall below freezing.

We’re really looking forward to boosting our quantities this season in response to all of your support! 🙏 It’s go time!

Whilst us conservationists patiently wait for hopeful news on new chestnut derivatives, and American beech trees struggles with BLD…. Elms continue their struggle with DED and Sycamore balances its battle with anthracnose….the mighty oak (although, not impenetrable to SOD and other pathogens) remains at least for now…mighty.
