Wool for the win!!

Did you know... 50% of the weight of clean wool is pure biogenic carbon?

That means it is made of carbon that is constantly cycling through the atmosphere, pasture and plants, sheep and soil.

Why does this matter?

Because understanding the biogenic carbon cycle and accounting for it in carbon costing allows for a much more precise understanding of wool’s environmental impact. Because we need to be grounded in actual farming systems, not averages and assumptions that don't reflect regional realities.

To better understand biogenic carbon flows, researchers built detailed farm-level models based on real production calendars and peer-reviewed livestock data. These models were refined to match published production figures while adding greater accuracy on biological processes across the grazing cycle.

It’s another step toward better data, better understanding, and better decisions for the future of natural fibres. 🌱

Tomatoes and wool love each other.

Wool pellets hold water for the plant. Tomatoes love consistent soil moisture and wool helps with that. Woolly Belly Pellets hold at least 3 times their weight in water. Wool fiber is also made up of nitrogen, potassium, and a good amount of sulfur. As the pellets break down, they slowly release these nutrients tomatoes need to make beautiful fruit.

Have you seen wool pellets claiming different numbers of Nitrogen levels? What’s the scoop with that?

All wool sheared off the sheep have Nitrogen levels between 10 and 12%. When wool sits around, it loses a bit of its nitrogen to the atmosphere. Our package NPK percentages reflect testing of wool over 4 years old which had a nitrogen amount of 9%. Our testing of wool right off our sheep was over 10%. We only pellet wool sheared in the past year to ensure your wool pellets will have the most nitrogen. The pellets will break down over 6-9 months slowly releasing their nutrients.

Shepherds have witnessed plants and their love of being grown with wool. All natural, sustainable and renewable which is good for our earth.

Fertilize and help water with one product!

What a lovely weekend ! A big thank you to the organizers and all of the fun gardeners we talked with about wool. 🌱

The carts of plants, trees, and bushes were so fun to see. So many moms celebrating with their families.💚

Make sure to share how your plants grow with Woolly Belly Pellets.

Use 1/2 Cup of pellets for each gallon of soil. If planting seeds, work into the soil beneath the seeds. If a plant has already been planted, sprinkle some around the plant and push in with a pencil.

The wool will naturally fertilize all summer long and hold water.

Happy Mother’s Day and thank ewe for supporting a small business!

It’s the Friends School Plant Sale at the Minneapolis State Fairgrounds. Find us here this weekend! We’ve been having a great time talking to so many gardeners.

It’s been awesome to have gardeners stop by to tell us they bought pellets last year and their plants loved them!

If you are looking for a fun weekend, grab your mom (it is Mother’s Day weekend) head to the fairgrounds and check out the fun. After that head to Lake Elmo and to check out the sheep and wool barn. We wish we could be there as well!

Lots of fun ways to spend time with your mom!
