The wetlands are capturing my attention this year. The inspiration is my friend the Beaver who creates (or destroys) by damming and felling trees. As she does this, she kills even more trees by flooding the land. These dead trees are adored by woodpecker families.

Remember that email I shared a while ago that included the statement — what creatures were right or wrong in a landscape that had been constantly changing anyway?

I wonder about the dialectic of human instincts and non-human instincts.

The process of making of paintings, being non-verbal in nature, is to work with instincts. Painting essentially is contemplating questions of color and shape. For exhample, what happens when I paint a boat RED sans light rendering and allow the boat to act as symbol? Rather than a create a nostalgic rendering I’ve opened the potential for the symbol to act on one’s imagination.

How do you play with symbols in your artwork or life?

Lastly, would you consider sharing this message?

I’d love to hear from you - Joe

Tonight there is a free discussion at UWEC around the subject of rural resentment and feeling heard. 5:30 talk I think at the Menards Constitutional Center. I can't go, but it made me think of this project I produced for Farmers' Union. Take notice that these farmers are probably not voting the same way as those of you in my bubble. But their values for taking care of the land are dead on correct. It's a 17 minute film and includes weird animations from me. Co-produced with BBill HogsethWorth your time. RReba Krueger

I engage in collaborative projects which empower others to experience and learn from nature.  Projects include murals, films, public art structures, landscape design, drawing and painting.
