Plant Fam!!!… I’m so excited to share this next milestone for both myself AND Scenic Root! I am officially the Vendor Director for The GROW Expo in 2027!! 🥹🌱

I met Ali last year when we worked together at the Texas Aroid Show, and we clicked almost immediately. Anddddd apparently she decided my crazy plant lady energy matched hers enough to invite me onto the team. Haha!

But seriously, when she asked me to be part of this, I felt ALL the things. Excited, nervous, proud, honored… because having someone recognize potential in you and believe you have something valuable to contribute? That means more than I can explain. I’ve spent the last couple years on the vendor side of things, from tiny local markets to huge plant expos. And I think that’s exactly what I hope to bring to this role. I know firsthand how much time, money, and heart small business owners pour into these events. I know how much a successful weekend can mean to someone and their small business.

I’ve always loved meeting new people at markets, discovering small businesses, and cheering on my fellow vendors. Now I get to take something I already enjoy doing and help build those connections on a much bigger scale! Ali and her team have been working so hard to create an event that’s affordable for both vendors and attendees, while bringing people together, supporting small businesses, and building something everyone looks forward to being part of year after year. And I’m so excited to help make that happen!

I’m also excited to learn! Getting a behind the scenes look at how a nonprofit operates, helping bring an event like this to life, and stepping into something completely new is a little intimidating, but in the best way. And who knows where this might lead? Bigger events? More opportunities to bring our plant community together? Maybe even hosting something of my own one day? I’m still figuring things out as I go, but I’m really grateful someone saw something in me worth investing in.

OK y’all, who would be up for an African violet purge?

I’m really wanting to make African violets popular again! They stay small and compact, they bloom, they’re non toxic to pets, they really make the perfect little houseplants.

And I’m going to make this super easy for y’all! Every violet will already be set up in a self-watering planter and come with plant food, a little measuring spoon, and clear, simple care instructions. Easy peasy, violet breezy!!!!

A little small business moment I just wanted to share…

Today I made my very first $500 plant sale. In one order!! That’s officially a new record for Scenic Root, and I’m over here doing a little happy dance! This is a milestone of running a small business in my mind… It means I had a lot of plants someone wanted.. I did a good….I’m proud of this one, and I’m incredibly grateful.. Being able to provide pet safe plants locally to collectors and help someone grow a collection they love makes me so happy.

But I also wanted to share something that I don’t think people always realize about shopping small.

One person can make SUCH a difference. I’ve been stressing over an upcoming bill and trying to figure out how much extra hustling I need to do to get everything taken care of. And then something like this happens, and suddenly I can breathe a little easier. That’s time I don’t have to spend running myself ragged, and a little less weight on my shoulders.

And please don’t think I’m saying everyone needs to spend $500 at a small business. Goodness, no! Whether you spend $5, $20, or make one big purchase every couple of years, it all matters. Even sharing a post or telling a friend about us makes a difference.

I know there are so many places you can shop for plants, and the fact that people continue to choose my little nursery means more than I can explain. Thank you for keeping this crazy plant lady’s dream growing. You guys are pretty awesome.
