Organic Lawn Care Tips: Summer

1. After a long dry period allow the rain to soak in for a few days and let the grass begin to grow again before cutting. The lawn will recover much faster this way.

2. As long as we are getting adequate rainfall every 5-7 days reduce any extra watering with heat and humidity on the rise it will support pathogenic fungal disease. Especially after a really wet spring setting the stage for a fungal bloom in the humid conditions.

3. Remember pathogenic fungal growth can make the lawn look brown as if it's drying out sometimes leading to more watering and more fungal disease.

4. Soil building should be moving you towards less human management in general as nature is much better at balancing out the extremes of weather.

5. Cut lawn on the highest setting your mower can cut to help increase lawn density and crowd out unwanted vegetation. Also, this increases photosynthesis and underground microbial activity.

6. The Joneses aren't worth keeping up with. It's a race to the bottom. 😎
