🌿 Something beautiful is growing here at Thyme To Forage. 🌿

We are officially opening enrollment for our new Hybrid Forest School experience — a gentle, seasonal, nature-based learning program designed to help families reconnect with the outdoors, slow down, and learn together through hands-on exploration rooted in faith, stewardship, and wonder. 🍃

Twice each month, on the FIRST and THIRD Friday, families will receive a new curriculum drop filled with meaningful seasonal activities and nature study experiences that can be completed at home, in your backyard, at local parks, or here at our community food forest during optional Open Homestead Days.

Our very first theme is:
🌧 Water, Weather & Resilience 🌿

This month’s curriculum includes beautiful printable journal pages, scavenger hunts, watercolor weather wheel crafts, DIY rain gauges, cozy seasonal recipes, devotional reflections, nature observation activities, research extensions for older students, and short teaching videos designed to guide your family through the lesson in a gentle and engaging way.

This program was created with real families in mind — especially homeschoolers, nature-loving children, multi-age siblings, and parents longing for a more connected, flexible, and meaningful rhythm of learning.

🌱 Virtual Membership — $12/month per family

🌳 Local Homestead Membership — $30/month per family

Once registered, families will receive an email with instructions for accessing the curriculum and all future monthly lesson drops.

I truly believe this is becoming something incredibly special, and I cannot wait to share it with your families. 💚

🌿 HYBRID FOREST SCHOOL — EAST TENNESSEE 🌿

We are excited to open enrollment for our new hybrid Forest School experience through Thyme To Forage! 🍃

This program is designed for homeschool and nature-loving families who want a slower, more seasonal, hands-on approach to learning rooted in permaculture, stewardship, and wonder-filled exploration of the natural world.

Each month, families will receive TWO curriculum drops filled with seasonal learning experiences that can be completed at home, in your backyard, at local parks, or here at our community food forest during optional Open Homestead Days.

Curriculum topics throughout the year include things like:
🌱 soil ecosystems & composting
🐝 pollinators & wildflowers
🌧 water cycles & weather
🌳 food forests & forest layers
🍅 harvesting & seed saving
🦆 farm ecosystems & animal care
🍄 mushrooms & decomposition
🦌 wildlife habitats & tracking
🌿 herbalism & traditional plant uses
❄️ winter ecology & seasonal rhythms

Each curriculum drop may include short teaching videos, printable nature journaling pages, scavenger hunts, crafts, hands-on projects, nature study activities, gardening and homesteading skills, science lessons, and faith-based devotional connections centered around creation care and stewardship.

Our goal is not just to “teach classes,” but to help families reconnect with the land, slow down, observe seasonal rhythms, and cultivate curiosity together in a meaningful and accessible way.

💚 Membership Options 💚

Virtual Membership — $12/month per family
Includes all monthly curriculum drops and printable resources.

Local Homestead Membership — $30/month per family

Sibling participation is included within the family membership.
This model works beautifully for multi-age families, flexible homeschool styles, and parents looking for meaningful outdoor learning without the pressure of rigid schedules.

🌧 Forest School Update 🌿

Due to tomorrow’s rain and the slick conditions it creates on our hillside, trails, seating area, and driveway here at the Thyme To Forage food forest, tomorrow’s Forest School classes have been rescheduled for safety reasons.

As much as we love muddy boots and outdoor exploration, safety always comes first — especially on our steep little Appalachian hillside. 🍃

🌱 Make-up day information has been sent to enrolled families!

We also wanted to share a little sneak peek into something NEW we’ve been quietly working on behind the scenes…

Beginning in July, Forest School will be transitioning into a hybrid nature-learning model designed to give families more flexibility while still staying deeply connected to seasonal, hands-on, faith-led learning rooted in permaculture and creation care. 🌿

Families can expect things like:
🍂 twice monthly curriculum drops
📹 seasonal video lessons
📖 printable nature journaling pages
🎨 hands-on crafts & activities
🔍 scavenger hunts
🌱 gardening & homesteading skills
🦋 nature study & science
🌧 seasonal observation prompts
🌳 self-led Open Homestead Days here at the food forest

The heart behind Forest School has never just been “classes.” It’s always been about helping families slow down, reconnect with the land, and cultivate wonder together. 💚

More details will be coming very soon, and we are incredibly excited for this next season. 🌾

Today's priority just became getting the rest of the rows mounded and the plants OUT of the greenhouse!

I have been suffering from a ton of dizziness here lately and haven't gotten nearly enough done. The greenhouse is full and needs to be cleared out, and NOW is the time to do so!

Also have a ton of mulch that still needs to be spread, and this would also be a fantastic time to get that done before the rain 🌧

Anyone else feel like gardening has become increasingly unpredictable?

One week it’s drought conditions. The next week your garden is underwater. Then suddenly there’s a late frost after everything leafed out. 😅

Whether people want to call it climate change, shifting weather patterns, or just “crazy seasons,” the reality is the same: gardeners are having to adapt.

That’s why resilient gardening matters more than ever.

Some of the BEST ways to create a more resilient garden system are:
🌿 Heavy mulching to protect soil moisture
🌿 Diverse plantings instead of monocultures
🌿 Building organic matter in the soil
🌿 Planting perennials alongside annuals
🌿 Creating windbreaks and shade layers
🌿 Using cover crops and living roots year-round
🌿 Harvesting and slowing rainwater instead of letting it run off

Healthy soil acts like a sponge. Biodiversity acts like insurance. And layered systems tend to recover faster after weather extremes.

Nature was never designed to grow in perfectly neat little rows with bare dirt exposed everywhere.

The more we mimic natural systems… the more resilient our gardens become 🌱

If you want help building a resilient garden or food forest system for your property, we offer consultations and soil guidance here at Thyme To Forage 🌿

If you’ve ever tried gardening in East Tennessee clay soil… you already know the struggle 😅

Hard-packed ground. Water pooling in one spot and running off in another. Plants struggling even when you’re watering and fertilizing.

The truth is, healthy gardens start with healthy soil.

That’s exactly why I created the East Tennessee Soil Regeneration Guide — a practical guide focused specifically on our local conditions here in the Appalachian Ridge & Valley region.

Inside, we cover:
🌿 Fixing compacted clay soil
🌿 Improving drainage naturally
🌿 Building fertility without relying heavily on chemicals
🌿 Mulching strategies that actually work
🌿 Cover crops + living roots
🌿 Creating resilient garden systems that improve year after year

Good soil isn’t built overnight… but it can be rebuilt.

If you’d like a copy of the guide, comment “SOIL” or send us a message and we’ll get you the details! 🌱

This is the beginning of something bigger than us. 🌱

A community food forest built on a Tennessee hillside:
🍎 Fruit trees
🌿 Native plants
🐝 Pollinator habitat
👩‍🌾 Forest school
🤝 Community gathering space

Still messy. Still growing. But we’re building it anyway.

Welcome to Thyme To Forage.

Today was a busy day!

Started our morning off with Forest School classes & then had Volunteer Day this afternoon!

Fresh strawberry lemonade and cookies was delicious 😋

Over 100 plants in the ground plus started some lettuce & carrot seeds, and also potted up 75 of the 275 trees! Barely made a dent in the greenhouse 😅

We still have some Redbud, Saskatoon Serviceberry, Black Elderberry and Pawpaw trees available if anyone is looking! 🪴

I'll be posting more pictures this weekend, but for now, some much needed rest this evening 🙌

Excited to see our community food forest coming together one day at a time, one plant at a time!
