License and a minimum of five years experience in professionally installing CCTV systems, Security Alarm systems, Access Control Systems and/or Fire Alarm Technicians. Pay range $20/hour to $30/hour. People often ask, why do your cameras cost more than what I can get at Costco or Sam’s. Here is my explaination:

There are two types of cameras available, consumer grade cameras and professional grade cameras.

The manufacturer’s of consumer grade cameras first decide on a price point and build their cameras to that price point. Examples of this are Ring, Nest, Simply Safe, etc.

The manufacturer’s of professional grade cameras first decide on the quality they seek and build their cameras to provide that level of quality. Then they price point it. Examples are Alarm.com, Alibi, Panasonic, etc

Many folks who purchase consumer grade often complain of quality issues, not long after they install. Professional grade cameras should last three to ten years if properly maintained and serviced.

That is a very simply approach to why professional grade cameras have a higher cost point than consumer grade.
