To all our active and veterans 🙏🏻✨💘 Thankyou
Today's A Mighty Girl Community Pick is in honor of Veterans Day: "Don't Forget, God Bless Our Troops" by incoming First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. Natalie is proud of her father, but it's hard on everyone when he has to deploy overseas for a year. She hangs onto the words: "Be brave, Natalie." Natalie and her family find ways to keep her dad in their thoughts: she and her Nana bake cookies to send to him and his fellow soldiers, she plays with soldier toys that she calls "Daddy dolls", and they have video chats whenever they can. She also leans on supportive friends at school, and adults in her community, who help her when she's missing him or worried about whether he'll be okay. But nothing compares to that special day when Daddy comes home, and he can finally hold her in his arms again! Inspired by the real-life experience of her granddaughter whose father spent a year deployed with the National Guard, Dr. Biden's respect for America's veterans and military families shines through in this touching picture book filled with stunning pencil-and-watercolor artwork by renowned illustrator Raúl Colón. Highly recommended for ages 4 to 8.
