Sansevieria Whale Fin (Sansevieria masoniana) is an extremely easy to care for plant. The leaves on this species resemble whale fins, which it is often also called; and can grow up to 3-4 feet tall!
This plant is my favorite of all my potted plants. In 2023 it started. as one large leaf. One year later I acquired another large leaf. Since then both plants have continually had pups. Recently I combined both plants. Now it's one big happy family; and a new pup takes center stage.
The height of the tallest leaf is 19 inches.
The width of the widest leaf is 6 inches.

Since today was a spring-like day and I spent time outdoors, analyzing the state of my garden and mentally planning to start maintenance very soon.
While outside I noticed a single bee on the gopher plant (Euphorbia lathyris); and is always the case, I just had to take photos.
The unusual thing is that I have never had anything bloom in February. This one usually begins blooming in March. Could this be the effect of global warming?

Take a look at my schlumbergera bridgesii, better known as Christmas cactus, but it's not really a cactus. It's a succulent. This plant only blooms in December but it's a beautiful and easy to care for year-round plant. Treat yourself to one today!

October, the month I dislike the most. It's time for fall garden maintenance, which includes trimming back my precious Miguelito vine before it dries up completely and thousands of dead leaves fall to the ground.......and yes, it's me who would rake them up.
My Chinaberry tree is slowly drying up and shedding yellow leaves, which are littering the patio and lawn. But there's no point in raking/sweeping just yet; until all shedding is complete.
I also need to set up the little greenhouse to store smaller potted plants. Then I need to clean up the plants which will come indoors during winter. By cleanup I mean wash them (leaves can get quite dusty outdoors, and bring inside the upright plant shelf, which also needs to get washed before putting it inside....and this is just the maintenance in my garden in back of my house. I still need front yard maintenance. I'm not complaining, I love what I do!!

I spent a couple of hours this afternoon tidying up my little garden. As you can see autumn is finally making itself known. This week my Chinaberry tree decided to start turning yellow and dropping leaves!
I gave my pomegranate tree a flat top! Did you know that it actually grows as a shrub? But I want it to look like a tree, so I treat it like a bonsai tree...prune, prune, prune!

You don't have to spend money buying plants at big box stores. Just go out in nature and find them there.
First picture shows me, July 2021, and the free plant that I found out in the desert just outside of the city. I planted it in my garden.
Second picture, October 2022, shows the new plant that grew by natural propagation (seeds that were scattered).
Third picture shows this year's plant, once again grown by natural propagation.
I only planted the first plant that I brought from the desert. The others, grew on their own.... native plants, heat and drought tolerant, no care at all.
Try native xeriscaping and let nature do the work!

Everyone is familiar with roses; but did you know that this is Desert Rose?...and for obvious reasons, it's drought and heat tolerant, and grows best with several hours of sunshine. I hope you have a rosy day!

Happy Mother's Day to my plants and their babies. Yes, most plants are mamas who reproduce without male contribution. We should learn from and respect the creative force of nature.
