With rainy season ahead of us, this is your reminder to check in on your sump pump. I recommend at least once a year testing the sump pump in your home. Visually inspect it, clean out any loose debris from the pit, and cycle it a few times. If at all possible, run some water thru it for 1-2 minutes and check the outside discharge area afterward. Unfortunately, sump pump backs still can happen as in this this situation. The client had a flooded basement and didn't even realize it until it was way too late. He didn't frequent the basement much, and the previously installed flooring system masked the symptoms of standing water. It masked over 1 1 /2" of standing water for months! When we got the call, we immediately responded, finding mold to the extent that the homeowners' health was a concern of ours. We quickly removed all soiled materials and set up commercial hepa filters and dehumidifiers in the basement. Any signs of mold that were left were mitigated and were longer hazardous.

As restoration began to the property, improper installation of flooring was found ( you don't build a wall on top of your floor!). During this process, I personally worked directly with the insurance with my client's best interest in mind. I worked to ensure no corners were cut, and the maximum claim amount was received, documenting each step of the way. With our help, the client received 100% of the cost covered by the insurance!

In the end, the basement was fully restored better than its original condition and looks great. He will not have to worry about his basement flooding every again now because of the great flooring product we found. The Kallum brand flooring is 100% waterproof, and when l say waterproof, I mean it not like some manufacturers like to claim but their products don't hold up.

If you ever find yourself having to deal with your insurance, having an experienced licensed general contractor in your corner is key to receiving value from the policy you already pay for!

It has been a whirlwind and roller coaster of a season, but we are ready to compete this weekend at Central Illinois Regional in Peoria! (Robot pics coming soon.) The robot and pit equipment are tucked away in the trailer ready to head out tomorrow. One more thing snuck up this season... We are celebrating 25 years of robots as Team 648! (309, we didn't forget you, so yes, we have actually been around longer.) Interestingly, we will be the oldest team competing in Peoria this weekend and will be joined by a team that has a 5 digit number. Now that is a lot of FIRST FRC teams in the past 36 years!
