This weekend we took all of the siding off our hoarder house and we found some BIG issues. The culprit: poorly installed insert windows.

Insert windows are faster and cheaper than a full tear-out but they come with their own risk: sealing a new window over an old, hidden problem.
Before your installer starts on a retrofit, ask:
1️⃣ Are you inspecting the existing sill/frame for rot before installing?
2️⃣ Are you adding a sill pan flashing inside the existing opening?
3️⃣ What sealant are you using, and where exactly (hint: not everywhere)
4️⃣ How are you handling the old exterior trim or brickmould?
5️⃣ Is there a weep path for water that gets behind the window?

An insert window can look perfect on day one and still be sitting on rot you never saw. Ask the questions first.
