How long do you think this monumental Japanese temple bell can ring after a single strike?

Seconds?
One minute?
Longer?

For centuries, Japanese Bonshō temple bells were designed not just to make sound — but to create an experience. Their deep resonant tone was meant to travel across temple grounds, mountainsides, and villages, calling monks to prayer and marking the passage of time.

This extraordinary bronze bell was crafted by one of Japan’s most celebrated bell-making families, masters of an art form that required generations of knowledge in bronze casting, tuning, and proportion. The shape, wall thickness, and alloy all influence how long the sound continues to resonate after impact.

Unlike Western bells that swing, traditional Japanese temple bells are struck from the outside with a suspended wooden beam, producing the powerful low-frequency vibration these bells are famous for.

The result?
A sound you don’t just hear… you feel.

Watch until the end and comment your guess below:

What was the original “closet system” of old Japan before modern wardrobes existed?

The answer is the Ishō Tansu — a traditional Japanese clothing chest designed to carefully store kimono, textiles, and seasonal garments while protecting them from humidity and daily wear.

This elegant two-section example is crafted from lightweight yet durable kiri wood (paulownia), prized in Japan for centuries because it naturally resists moisture and insects — making it ideal for storing precious silk kimono and family heirlooms. The simple lines, warm grain, and handcrafted iron hardware reflect the timeless beauty of Japanese design: functional, refined, and built to last generations.

Like modern furniture, these chests were designed around a lifestyle of careful organization, seasonal rotation, and respect for craftsmanship. Every drawer had a purpose. Every piece told a story.

A reminder that even storage furniture in Japan was elevated into an art form.

While we might all know a little bit about the Great Wall of China, built during a 2000 year period started in the Qin dynasty and completed around 1644 during the Ming Dynasty when adding up thr total of all its stone wall sprawed over 13,000 miles. Much of it is still there and an amazing tourist destination. Separating Northern China from Southern Mongolia much of it is a double wall system designed to trap huge armys only to surcome them fates by archery. Some of the great wall uses natural barriers such as rivers and mountain ridges that still require a formatible task to cross. There is parts of the wall that is ditches and moats, but unfortunately much is in ruins with parts that have been dismanted completely. A UNESCO representative stated there has been efforts to restore the wall in certain places.

(Wiki) The Qin Dynasty (221–206 BCE) was the inaugural imperial dynasty of China, unifying the nation under a centralized government led by Qin Shi Huang. It is renowned for its potent, yet draconian, rule based on Legalism and for large-scale construction projects such as the Great Wall of China and the Terracotta Army. Despite its brief duration, the dynasty introduced enduring reforms, including the standardization of weights, measures, currency, and the written script. Unification and Rule: The dynasty emerged from the Warring States period, unifying China under the rule of Qin Shi Huang, with a highly centralized government based on Legalism, emphasizing strict laws and severe punishments to maintain order. Construction and Infrastructure: The dynasty is celebrated for its major engineering feats, including the initial connection and expansion of northern border walls, forming the Great Wall of China, the construction of a national road system, and the creation of the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, guarded by the Terracotta Army. Standardization: To consolidate control, the government standardized various aspects of the empire, including currency, weights, and measures, unifying the writing system, which had previously varied across different states. Cultural and Intellectual Impact: The Qin Dynasty promoted Legalism as the state philosophy, suppressing other competing ideologies, leading to contentious policies such as the burning of non-essential books and the ex*****on of dissenting scholars. Downfall: The dynasty's authoritarian rule and the immense human cost of its public works projects generated widespread resentment, and upon Qin Shi Huang's death, internal conflicts and peasant revolts led to a rapid collapse into civil war, resulting in the dynasty's downfall just 15 years after its founding, succeeded by the Han Dynasty in 202 BCE.
