Out sick for one week and the pests completely take over! I thinned out the tops of my root veggies that were being eaten. Fed the bugs to nearby ant beds. 😉 Then harvested what I could. Black magic kale, two beets, and three purple top turnips for the win! Afterwards I sprayed everything with some BT and Captain Jack's Dead Bug before the rain came again.

I don't like to spray my gardens and only use organic options, but there comes a time when a little more action is needed to preserve the crop. Today I sprayed all the greens with Captain Jack's and went over everything with a little diatomaceous earth. My biggest pest pressure right now are from cabbage moths and cucumber beetles.

This weekend's rain had my garden looking lush and full this morning! After a week of r&r with my feet in the sand, it's such a good feeling to return home to see all my plants thriving. The blueberries had ripened, the birds left us plenty of mulberries, and we had a surprise of ripe peaches. I'll soon make a pot of turnips with cornbread judging by the look of those purple top turnips.

The leaves may show fungal issues. The color of the petals may be faded with age. However, the beauty of this Cathedral Bells rose still shines through. Timeless beauty.

The vote is in! These are the best tasting blueberries EVER! 🫐 The kids and my hubby got to try a few of the ripe berries this afternoon. I may or may not have sampled the most. 😬😆 My fave is definitely San Joaquin. So sweet with a perfect firmness. We have two each of five varieties: Olympus, Blue Ribbon, Jewel, PeachyBlue, and San Joaquin.

New crop: chickpeas! A somewhat slow start, but they sprung up almost overnight once they sprouted.
