Coach highlight: Jaime McCarthy 🥎
The Escanaba Little League has excitedly chosen Jaime McCarthy for the next coach highlight. Jaime is a 9/10 softball coach for team Dombrowski Tree Service Inc.
Jaime has been coaching 5 years now through 7/8 and 9/10 softball divisions. She also coaches a 7/8 travel ball team!
💖 Her inspiration to volunteer each year and coach:
“ I enjoy giving back to the sport of softball, because the playing the sport has truly given me so much in my lifetime. I also enjoy giving back to the community, who provided support and opportunities for me as a youth athlete.”
Her inspiration speaks volumes to the benefits the little league has for our community and our youth!
🤩 Her favorite part of being a coach is
“Seeing the growth in kids from the start of the season to the end of the season. I also love seeing the excitement in their faces after a big timely hit or making a great play. Softball is a game is losses, so when you see a “winning moment,” it’s really special!”
She clearly must be doing something right because she is beloved by many in the league.
What’s her secret for success?
“I’d say I’m ultra encouraging, yet I try not to let kids settle for anything less than they are capable of. I think age appropriate “healthy” pressure is necessary for growth and pushing the kids who want more outside of their comfort zone. “
🎯 Her end goal always:
“To love softball and want to continue to play from season to season! But most importantly, to have softball experience each summer that fosters inclusivity and sportsmanship.”
👉 Her most memorable moment:
“I think my most memorable moment thus far has been being an assistant coach on our 9/10 Minor Girls All-Star team last Summer! The girls went 3-0 at the State Tournament against some very well respected teams in the state of Michigan, and just barely fell short of a State Championship!”
🌟 One life lesson she’d love to pass down:
“Hard Work, Pays Off! Push limitations, Dream Big, and Don’t settle! You never truly know what you are capable of (in Softball or Life) until get comfortable with being uncomfortable!”
One fun fact about Jaime:
“I didn’t even touch a softball until I was 12 years old! I became the starting pitcher as a Freshmen on Escanaba High School’s Inaugural Softball season in 1997, and I played Division 1 College Softball at Fordham University in NYC from 2001-2004.”
Her service goes beyond the field and the youth! Jaime also is a physical therapist at OSF in Escanaba.
She said she finds great joy in serving and rehabilitating members of our community! 🧡
We are so lucky to have her!
