Preventing more work in the spring starts now by deadheading seed pods from perennials that you don’t want to take over. In this instance, siberian iris and crocosmia are done flowering and have plenty of seeds in their pods. In areas that I’d like them to colonize, I leave them to drop and spread. In areas that I don’t want them to take over , like this lavender slope for instance, I cut them off now and save myself the time of weeding all those little tiny baby starts that will sprout in the toughest of places and be labor intensive to remove.
