Jimbo's Mobile Home Adventure

Jimbo's Mobile Home Adventure This page has been set up to document my work on a mobile home that I just purchased in Eugene, Oregon. It's a fixer-upper but I got it at a great price!

Oh my gosh, it's been so long since I've posted anything here. I'm kinda embarrassed. I'm still working on the place. It's taking a lot longer but we are slowly making progress. I'll try to post a bunch of pics in the spring. Not doing much in the Winter. Didn't do a whole lot last year either. I was working a lot of hours at my job. So the catch 22 of course is that when I work more hours I can afford to pay the the repairs, I just to have time to do them. LOL!

Well, I can probably say truthfully now that I'm not swimming in boxes anymore. Things are still very busy for me in the job area. Last month I took on two new clients with Mentor Oregon and I started part time with my kids school cafeteria. So if you look at it I really I have 5 part time jobs...Mentor Oregon, Village School, OCS computer consulting, this house, and my kids half-time. Oh 6 if you count the occasional clients from my own little PC business. Thankfully, these jobs are keeping me afloat financially and out of debt. However, it leaves less time to work on this place so I just have to take a few hours here and there and just plug away as I can. Last weekend I got fed up with not having a workable kitchen and halted all work on other house projects and got that done. Even though it is only a temporary setup, it feels GOOD to have this. It's a little messy right this moment but I should be able to post a pic or two of it this weekend. I hope everyone has had a good week.

Still swimming in and living out of boxes from the move and spending lots of time on my jobs so work here at the mobile has been slower than I like. Not gonna complain about work though as it is allowing me to be able to afford the projects I'm working on. :)
I installed some shelves above the laundry machine and have replaced nearly all the insulation in the living room with R21. Today, after getting my day-to-day chores done, I will focus on
- finishing the temporary kitchen sink set up which has been a bit of a nightmare. (Story and pics of my awesome new sink later)
- framing and installing the 2nd dual pane window in the boys room.
- insulate and staple up the rest of the boys room with radiant barrier shield.
- if there is time and I have the energy, I might put up the wood strips for the drywall to hang on in the boys room. These will allow air space between the radiant barrier shield and the drywall.

It's been a few days and I've been very busy with my various jobs so work on the mobile is slower than I would like. However, I did get a washer and dryer this weekend. The washer was $75 on craigslist and the dryer was free from one of my Mentor Oregon clients. I rented a uhaul truck this morning to pick them both up and while I had a truck, I stopped at Home Depot for some drywall, some siding and some sound proofing panels. The install for the washer and dryer was a success and I'm a tired puppy :)

All my stuff is here now so today I've spent some time arranging things and making a staging area so I can continue work on the house. Today I'm hoping to figure out how the kitchen cabinet/counters were going to be assembled. None if it was put together when I got here. I want to install and test the dishwasher as well.

Well, I didn't get as much done on the home as I wanted before the move date, but such is life. All my stuff is here and the move was exhausting but I'm here! Since I spent all my time working on the house, I didn't plan the move as well as I should have. Anyway, I'm here now and happy about it even though I'm swimming in boxes and I have many projects that must get done ASAP. I did get the water heater hooked up yesterday and was very happy to take a hot shower. I'm sleeping on the couch now as my room is currently full of kitchen cabinetry which has yet to be installed. Tomorrow I plan on hooking up the dishwasher and rig up the kitchen sink even though there aren't any cabinets. I'm in the thick of it now and it is very demanding but I'm thrilled and I am constantly seeing the end results in my mind - and they are happening :)
