NeoCon 2026 is about to open, and DMAC Founder & Principal Dwayne MacEwen will be taking the stage at NeoCon Talks at 1:45pm on Monday, June 8th, 7th Floor at The Mart in Chicago. In a dynamic, 20-minute presentation, Dwayne will be exploring what it means to “Design What Isn’t Written—But Felt.”

Great design doesn’t always come from having the answers from the start. Sometimes it requires unlearning what you think you know. Sometimes it means having the humility to ask the simple questions others may overlook. Sometimes it starts with simply asking: “What if?”

This will be a thoughtful, energetic, and honest conversation about curiosity, instinct, empathy, and the unseen forces that shape meaningful experiences.

Gearing up and getting excited for NeoCon Shows 2026, June 8-10 at The Mart where DMAC Founder + Principal, Dwayne MacEwen, is a featured speaker on the NeoCon Talks stage on the 7th Floor Exhibit Hall at The Mart and hosted by Design Milk.

His talk, “Designing What Isn’t Written—but Felt,” challenges designers to move beyond program and assumptions, asking better questions, uncovering what’s missing, and grounding ideas in deeper narratives of brand, place, and community. It’s a call for rigor and creative courage, where the most impactful solutions are tested, pushed, and refined until something truly new emerges.

The Lunar New Year marks the Year of the Fire Horse, a rare 60-year cycle associated with energy and forward movement.

It’s a fitting moment to reflect on a different horse in Chicago.

The terra cotta horse head at Midtown Athletic Club Chicago traces back to the former Bonewood Dairy site, which survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. When the land was sold, the deed stipulated that the horse head remain with the site in perpetuity.

Today, it’s embedded in the club’s brick façade and reinterpreted as robe hooks in the guestrooms, a historic detail carried forward through design.
