A favorite feature on our home/office property is a beautiful Catalpa tree, which is estimated to be 70–80 years old.

Catalpas have such unique flowers and a character all their own. Back in the 1930s, Catalpa trees were often distributed through programs like the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and this tree may have been given away through the CCC when they were in Evansville or possibly through the Wisconsin DNR.

It's pretty amazing to think that something planted generations ago is still thriving and being enjoyed today :)

Successful solarization after 2.5 months under plastic!

The existing turf was effectively eliminated, and we burned off the remaining surface material to prepare for the next step. Over the next week we'll scarify the soil, sow native seed, and apply straw.

Goodbye turf. Hello native habitat!

We started with a plan view to communicate the project goals and ideas. But the client wanted more to understand how it looked against the house. This is when our Landscape architect developed a perspective drawing to help increase visualization. In this case it really helped and our client has a much stronger idea of how the finshed product will feel.

This project starts in late August. If your planning a new outdoor sprace (patio, retaining walls, steps, walkways, etc) please let us know soon. Summer will go fast and we still have a few schedule openings for late fall, and late, late fall.

Keep in mind us landsape contractors work until the ground freezes, which means in some years we're still planting trees and building patios in December. Having your project done late in the season means it'll be ready for use immediately the following spring.

Warranteed work - All our hardscape features like patios, walkways, retaining walls, come with a 5-year warranty. Thats above industry average for certain! We build this types of projects to last and add value to your home and pleasure for you. EMAIL NOW IF YOU'D LIKE TO FIT YOUR PROJECT IN YET THIS YEAR! [email protected] and/or visit to our 'Contact' page at www.formecology.com to share your info.

June is National Pollinator Month!

This time of year, landscapes are filled with activity from bees, butterflies, birds, and other beneficial wildlife - and native plants play an important role in supporting them.

At formecology LLC, native plants are a foundation of our work. While they have many benefits, during Pollinator Month we focus on one of their most important roles: supporting pollinators.

Native plants provide the food and habitat that pollinators depend on throughout the growing season. As blooms progress through June, you can clearly see this relationship in action as wildlife moves throughout the landscape.

Permeable paver patio expansion near Lake Kegonsa in Stoughton!

These permeable pavers feature built-in spacer lugs that allow water to flow through the small gaps and be absorbed into the ground, rather than running off the surface like traditional pavers. A drive grid was also installed between the existing soil and paver base to help avoid settling over time. Because of the property's close proximity to the lake, the project also required county permitting as part of the process.

Not only was this a rewarding project that benefits both the property and surrounding lake area, but we also had the pleasure of working with great clients too. Our crew was treated to homemade cookies and breakfast while onsite — a win-win all around!

Final project photos will be posted next week!
