I love color. I have 48 in my watercolor palette!

Over time, I’ve curated my paints to get a vibrant, punchy look in my work, and get asked all the time about what I use. So I’m starting a short series where I share my current favorites, broken down by color family.

🩷 First up: Pinks!
Here are my top 3 (plus a bonus).

Normalize ugly sketchbooks! 🫣

I’ve been inspired by a lot of artists (like ) who keep a sketchbook or art journal that’s kind of meant to be a hot mess. No planning, no pressure, just whatever weird s**t dumps out of you that day.

Not quite doing this daily (yay commissions) but here’s a peek at the last couple of weeks. Seriously, what IS that fellow with the bird on his head? 🤔

My first ACEO drop! 💥

You’ve probably noticed the ACEO (Art Card, Editions and Originals) craze. Think snack-size art, essentially artist trading cards, made to be sold and collected.

Naturally, even though I have (*counts*) three other projects going at the moment, my ADHD brain said “yes please, do this too.”

I just listed six original cards from Series 1 on eBay (link in bio). Each piece is 2.5” x 3.5,” cut from a larger painting titled “All at Once” and numbered 1-6. I love that each one is its own little composition, pulled from the same whole, like fragments of the same story.

Honestly, this isn’t about big sales for me, but more about offering small, original pieces that are actually accessible to collect… and getting more real artwork into people’s hands (duuude, AI has me in a tizzy this week 😤). Also: it’s just really fun. 🌈

I will never own a beige couch. That’s probably all you need to know about me.

But since a lot of new folks have shown up here lately… Hello, I’m Heather! Three quick facts:

🌈 Yep, I’m a color lover through and through: a maximalist in both art and life, a collector of rainbows and pattern and weird vintage things. And seriously, how come car companies don’t offer more vehicles in bright colors?

🩷 I’ve recently had a difficult time health-wise, which quietly shifted how and why I create. My work is all about curiosity and joy, and I try to celebrate small, good things to impart as much positive energy as I can into the world.

🐱 I’m one half of a crazy cat couple. We have three: Bunny, Olive, and Mabel. You might catch them in my stories and videos. Mabel is my studio assistant and gets right up in the action… when she’s not sleeping on her .co box.

And this piece? It started as a little pep talk to myself. I hope it finds you at the right moment, too! 🦋

Exploring something a little new… or maybe just revisiting something old? 💙

Years ago I spent a lot of time on observational nature studies and shooting macro photos of plants and insects. Slowing down to really look has always been part of how I move through the world, and recently becoming an Indiana Master Naturalist has only deepened that.

So when my dad gave me this handmade journal for my birthday, it felt like the perfect place to start a side series of studies. Not really as a shift away from my usual work, but to better understand the shapes and details I’m always interpreting in my wild florals while connecting with nature.

To be honest, I picked these forget-me-nots fairly randomly… mostly because I knew the blue would pop against the warm-toned pages. But I have a feeling I’ll start focusing more on native species from here. 🌿

Because of the delicate paper, I drew this one separately then transferred the sketch over. Swipe to see how it came together!

In the spirit of my last post, I gave another loose floral painting a second life, this time as artist trading cards! I’ll be dropping them off next week at the new Community Art Swap at Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library. 🎨✂️

Honestly, these scrappy, low-pressure projects are saving me right now while I chip away at the much bigger (and much fussier) commission.

Oh, and pro tip from someone who already messed this up: try doubling up the thickness on your cards so they don’t warp! I tucked these into protective sleeves this time, too. ✨

Committing an art crime never felt so good. ✂️

I took a little break from the big piece I’m working on to experiment with something new... cutting up a loose, abstract floral painting and turning it into business cards!

Each one is hand-cut, hand-stamped, and completely one of a kind. Something unique, a little imperfect, and way more fun than anything I could order online. Practical? Debatable. Memorable? Absolutely.

I might go back and round the corners. What do you think? 🤔

Week 2 roundup of  ! Swipe to the end for a full flip-through of my sketchbook showing Days 1-14.

Day 8 is my favorite of the week — which one is yours?

This project has been SO successful in pushing me to experiment, paint faster, embrace imperfection, and explore a looser side of my process. And now…

I need to put my daily flowers on hold, for a pretty amazing reason: I’ve just been commissioned for my largest painting yet! 🎉😲

I’ll still be creating every day, but my primary focus needs to shift for a bit. I can’t wait to take you along on that journey, too!
