I’ve been dreading the fall weather a bit more than usual this year since we’ll be saying goodbye to several of our old greenhouse friends. The property sold this spring so we no longer have a winter home for the 4 whiskey barrel sized geraniums (and several others in large pots), the beastly rosemary, a beautiful fibrous begonia, and several tiger ferns that glow in the shaded woods. But I’m mostly sad about the extraordinary orang flowering maple. That will not be able to be replaceable as a large plant. They, and others, have served us well these past 5 years but now it’s really the end of the line for them and our greenhouse connections. Great memories. Thanks to God though for the connections we still do have with so many people we’ve known through our time at Swanson Greenhouses. Those are the most treasured! We hope you will all support the new greenhouse owners, Flourish Gift and Garden, when they open in the spring! In the meantime, stay warm everybody! 😊

We keep adding different display shelving & other items as they become available. Lots of uses for these....inside & out. There is still a good selection in the fairy garden area, nice pots, trellises, & so much more...all at 75% off! If you are putting gardens to bed, it's a good time to add cow manure, black dirt, peat moss, lime, Purple Cow Compost, and other soil amendments so they will be ready for spring. We can't believe it's just 2 weeks til we close on the 29th! If you know anyone with an unused gift certificate, let them know about the closing date! Whew! So many things to think about. Hope you're enjoying our beautiful fall!

Catch the season finale on WDSE/WRPT, the PBS channel in Duluth. It is a one hour program at 7pm. We have been underwriting this show for 3 years, and have been proud to do so. We thank Great Gardening for providing the gardeners of northern Minnesota with information that actually applies to us! Since we are retiring Oct. 29, we won't be sponsoring this any more, but we hope YOU all will continue to support them.

....And the countdown begins. We will continue mixing & selling our potting soil until we run out of ingredients. When it's gone, it's really gone, which makes me quite anxious. 31 years of blending the "perfect" mix for us has made me spoiled. Hope we can duplicate it in the garage! 😳😁

Some thoughts at the half way mark in September: from now until the end of October it is perfect bulb planting time. If you want daffodils, tulips, crocus, allium, & hyacinths next spring you have to plant them NOW! Many of the mums & other fall plants stay nice right up to Thanksgiving. They love the cold. (Not the snow so much.) Shrubs & trees can be planted thru the end of October & will take off quickly in spring. We're still in our regular fall gardening mode, until we close Oct 29.
