Spring is the perfect time to put out some mulch to refresh your landscaping. But did you know you or your landscapers might be mulching the wrong way? Mounded mulch up and around trees and bushes is the WRONG way!!! Mounding mulch up onto tree trunks is harmful to the tree. It encourages the roots to stay up at the surface. This keeps the roots from going deep into the soil to anchor itself and tap into the moisture and nutrients deep in the soil. The mulch also encourages rot at the ground level. If you or your landscapers are mounding, it’s time to call us!! We understand the needs of trees, bushes, and plants. If you don’t use us, please take the mulch from around your trees, they will thank you for it!! The pictures are an example of the damage your mounded mulch is doing.

Here’s a complete backyard renovation. I cleared, designed, and installed this from start to finish. The plants were all chosen as low maintenance and low inputs, while keeping the tropical feel. The clients wanted the pathway to be wabi sabi. Wabi sabi is a Japanese ideal that there is great beauty in imperfection. All materials were reclaimed. It was a true labor of love.
