Ozark Gardens

Ozark Gardens Ozark Gardens is what happens when two plant lovers indulge their inner plant geeks. Summer 2022 is brutal so far.

While we struggle, like everyone else, to keep things watered, we're also paying attention to the plants that seem better adapted to stand the stress of extreme heat and drought, Japanese Beetles and Blister Bettles. We will make future choices based on this 'research'.

Hello, my Garden friends. In case you haven’t figured it out I am still not strong enough and I don’t have enough endurance to open the shop.

Here is my ask for today.

Does anyone have any horseradish root they are willing to part with?

I think our USDA zone has been changed in the past and then not accepted and so we went back to the old designations. Now those of us in Ripley county are in either 7A or 7B. This is warmer than the old 6B designation we had. I will be buying things that are hardy and zones 7A and 7B and then we will try to warn you who live further north that you really shouldn’t grow because they will be difficult to keep over winter.

After several years of poor health I spent 2023 taking care of myself. I had a total knee replacement at the end of March which scudded the spring season. I am happy to report. It was a breeze. Dr. Schrader in Cape Girardeau is very good and I recommend. Unfortunately I had an unrelated second medical emergency with laid me out for several months. I spent the last two months with my daughter and Waynesville, getting medical care. I cannot find closer to home. I am counting on re-opening Ozark Gardens this spring. I hope to see you all then – – – Sarah.

This is the full moon that signals a safe time to plant many things. That is why a lot of people plant after Easter as Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring. "We in this hemisphere call it the Pink Moon, to celebrate the return of certain wild flowers. Other names are Egg Moon, Sprouting Grass Moon, or Easter Moon. In most years, the Christian celebration of Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon of the Northern Hemisphere spring. So tonight’s Easter Moon heralds the coming of Easter Sunday on March 31, 2013"

Having an empty laundry basket is the best 5 seconds of the week.

This is an interesting factoid that just crossed my screen.
