It’s April and it’s finally time to plant all of the warm season vegetables, herbs, and flowers! There are so many seedlings to plant as well as seeds that can be directly sown into the garden right now.

Before you plant your vegetables make sure your soil is full of nutrients to support these heavy-feeding edible plants. We like to add organic compost or worm castings, mychorrizal fungi, and an all purpose organic amendment mix to our soil before we plant.

It is also important to plan ahead with sturdy garden structures for vertical growing. Tomatoes, squash, cucumber, and other climbing vegetables benefit from a sturdy trellis placed deep in to the soil for strength.

What are you growing this season? Drop us a message telling us your favorite warm season varieties to grow in your garden.

March is a fun month in the kitchen garden! The pollinators are active, and the veggies are loving the warmth and light. Planting veggies, herbs, and flowers is keeping me busy. Plus, there’s many seeds to plant inside for the warmer season ahead.

Don't forget to make room for planting warm-season plants, like tomatoes and zucchini, in April and May. Planting quick-growing veggies now (greens, radishes, etc.) can be helpful, so you can harvest before your seasonal refresh. Here's to an exciting garden season!

🌱Get ready for spring with your garden this month! February is ideal for planting seeds, veggies, herbs, and flowers outside or starting warm-weather varieties indoors.

🌱Don't miss out on bare root fruit trees and flowers, available now at a lower price with the best selection.

🌱I also love shopping for seeds for the year from all of the amazing organic seed companies. Starting your veggies from seeds is more economical and there are many more varieties available.

🌱What are you planting this month?

It is December and the kitchen garden is slowing down a bit, but it’s still growing and thriving in our temperate Marin climate. Continue harvesting all of the cool season veggies you have already planted and you can still add some seeds and plant starts into the spaces in your garden this month. There is still time to plant garlic in your garden and you can also start some alliums from seed indoors as well.

We are busy maintaining kitchen gardens across Marin and we are also starting our design consultations for 2026 garden installations! Yay! If you are thinking about adding a kitchen garden to your Marin County property now is the time to start dreaming and planning for the warmer months to come. Reach out to learn more!
