When sufficient creosote exists inside a chimney it can cause a chimney fire. Another type of damage from creosote buildup is a blockage that allows deadly carbon monoxide to seep down into the home when a fire is burning as the smoke is unable to vent out properly.

The 3 Stages of Creosote Buildup:
- Stage 1: Dust-like Coating. Creosote is a byproduct of burning wood in your fireplace or wood stove.
- Stage 2: Tar-Like Crunchy Flakes. The second stage of creosote buildup can look like tar flakes on the inside of your chimney.
- Stage 3: Thick Coating. The final stage of creosote buildup looks like a thick coating of tar in the chimney.

Only a trained, experienced technician should ever be allowed to sweep your chimney. The National Fire Protection Association Standard 211 says, "Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances.

Good Morning! During this time many of us are staying safe at home - but we also want to be safe while at home. Because more people are at home, we might run the heat more, use our fireplaces & wood stoves more - so we'd like to share some safety tips & reminders with you:

1. Test your Smoke & CO2 detectors to make sure the batteries are good and replace them if they aren't.

2. Check your Hot Air system filters, if they are dirty change them. Always check with your local HVAC Company if youre not sure.

3. Have your dryer vents cleaned regularly by a professional, especially if it is taking longer than normal to dry your clothes. According to the National Fire Protection Association, nearly 17,000 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year. Unsurprisingly, the leading cause of these fires is the failure to clean dryer vents.

If you have any questions you can give us a call on 508-540-0458. We want you to remain safe & sound!
