What goes into designing a collegiate esports facility for Arkansas Tech University?

By gathering feedback from students and staff during planning, MBL Architecture (Architect of Record) and SmithGroup (building designer) created a space that truly works for the people who use it. Thoughtful design makes this a hub where gaming, learning, and innovation intersect — with technology mastered by NV5.

"Arkansas Tech saw this opportunity to create the avenue here and really start recruiting the esports athletes, so just as they would football players, basketball players, it is a full on sport that they've facilitated within this building," said Audy Lack, Principal of MBL.

Today marks International Firefighters’ Day, a meaningful opportunity to recognize the dedication, resilience, and service of firefighters who protect our communities every day.

Did you know firefighters have just 60 seconds to mobilize? The built environment must support that urgency.

At MBL Architecture, we design stations that remove friction, optimize response flow, and equip first responders to deliver emergency services when every second counts. From advanced training components to cancer-prevention design strategies and improved living quarters, these spaces are built with the realities of the job in mind.

As we approach the Station Design Conference on May 18, we look forward to engaging with industry peers on how design can continue to elevate emergency response infrastructure and better support those on the front lines.

It was a pleasure to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Springdale Fire Station #4 last Friday.

MBL Architecture is honored to have designed this state-of-the-art emergency services facility near I-49. The station features advanced, state-funded training areas, dedicated cancer-prevention measures for gear, and enhanced living quarters to support firefighter health and performance.

Springdale #4 reflects our commitment to prototyping as a strategy for continuous improvement — refining design to better serve those who serve our communities.
