We started our 1st fertilizer applications last week for our Fescue lawns. It’s greening up earlier this year. We may be mowing by the first week in March. Notice in picture 3 how green the Fescue is and the neighbors Bermuda lawn is brown/dormant.

Here it is! Shannon explaining our power overseeder machine and application. It’s not a mower. It’s not an aerator. It’s a piece of turf equipment that implants the grass seed in existing turf to strengthen or establish. Works wonders when done right. A big thank you to Addison with AM Productions for an outstanding video. She’s also my multitalented niece.

W**d Tip:
Heather the organic lawn girl hand pulling a Henbit w**d! March is when winter annual w**ds like Hebit ( the purple w**d) and Chickw**d (grows like spider pattern with white flower) are at their worst. Mow down, hand pull, or spot spray with vinegar/salt/dish suds(helps it stick to w**ds). Just keep doing any of these. It’s the best thing for your turf. Fescue will soon take off and it will be another month before Bermuda greens up!

We're staring our spring clean-ups and mulch! Crepes, Roses, Butterfly Bushes, and Grasses need to be cut back before new growth starts. Crepe Myrtle tip: there are two ways to trim. Either cut back to between 4 to 6 foot, to control height and cut below the knuckles. Or allow main branches to continue to grow and just cut all dead and crossing branches. This will allow the main stems to grow thicker to hold the heavy blooms in summer and to see the amazing bark!

Building a native stone rock wall.
We really like to use 100 to 150 rocks. They give so much more structure to the bed. Yarrow and catmint look outstanding growing at the edge and down the rock!

Problem solving down spouts!

This is how we solve mulch from being washed away from down spouts. The first photo is really simple. Excavate a 6 ft circumference about 1 ft deep. Then add medium gravel (11/4 in) size. The 1 ft deep allows for rain water to get into ground. If it's a down spout that gets a lot of roof runoff then we use oversized gravel. You can use any color rock but we mainly use the brown because is neutral and goes with anything.
The 2nd picture we build a dry creek bed. These really enhance the landscape bed as well as being extremely functional. We use native stone as edging and oversized gravel for the dry creek portion. Hope this helps!

Don't take an easy digging hole for granite! That's the best rock joke I have today.
