AN AMAZING COMMUNITY
I know. It’s been a few weeks. But I need to finish out some notes on my big restoration before taking things local again for a bit. We got A LOT done in a week. BUT, we did not do it alone. There were SO many people from within the community of Asbury Grove who were truly answers to prayer during our trip.
Starting with Rose, a new neighbor in her 80s who left her door open for us to have access to running water and at time HEAT! Beyond that she cooked for us, offered us food and drinks all day long, and shared stories about the Grove from its centuries of existence!
Then there was Paula and her sister Liz. In morning #1, Paula saw me moving furniture etc out of the cottage, introduced herself and offered to help me get rid of everything. By the end of the day, she had FULLY DELIVERED. Even the mattress and box spring found a home, allowing us clear floors to paint. As the week went on, she and her handy sister (also a new cottage owner) lent us tools, helped us with trash and gave us loads of invaluable advice!
My friend Melissa, who introduced me to the Grove, and also a full-time resident, was incredible, receiving packages for us before we arrived, and taking countless measurements. She even managed to help me get the old stove into my car to dispose of and came back after the fact to pull in our dresser and kitchen countertop that Carissa and I couldn’t get before we left.
And my new friend Amy, who works in the office, not only helped us tremendously through the process of purchasing the cottage, but went so far as to be willing to meet the appliance delivery truck for us when the new stove arrived after we had left.
And that’s just the people who live in the community! Heather and Brad let us use their house and snuggle their puppies in Marblehead for a few nights. My sweet godmother and her husband fed us and lent us power tools. My friend Stephanie took her one day off from work to come and help with the design and put in many hours of work, along with her daughter Maya, IN ADDITION to housing us and feeding us the other nights.
The trip was long and we worked really hard, but the kindnesses and support we received made me even more excited about heading back up there this summer to continue to enjoy being a part of this amazing community!
