Completed in 2017, this kitchen is proof that thoughtful material choices go a long way. Warm wood, clean surfaces, and a simple palette that still feels just as fresh today.

Design trends come and go—but materials that are honest, durable, and well-crafted will always hold up.

As the days get longer, spaces like this start to shine—covered, comfortable, and ready for everything from slow mornings to evening hangs. A good outdoor living area isn’t just seasonal, it extends how you live at home.

An open staircase can completely transform how a space feels—letting light move freely, keeping sightlines clear, and making everything feel larger than it is. Instead of closing things off, it becomes part of the architecture you actually experience.

It’s not just a way to get upstairs—it’s a design move that opens everything up.

Meet Big Boy 🖤🤍

Professional squirrel watcher.Full-time snack enthusiast.Part-time napper (okay… full-time).

He’s equal parts playful, cuddly, and just a little bossy—and we’re already wrapped around his paws. Safe to say Big Boy runs the place now 🐾

Last week we had the opportunity to tour the Salk Institute in San Diego designed by Louis Kahn. Built in the 1960’s to provide a collaborative, non-profit environment for scientists to explore the foundations of life. Today it is a renowned research center focused on pioneering discoveries in molecular biology to address critical health and environmental issues.

The open, stark plaza reflects sky light, turning the entire complex into a “sun-catcher” that highlights the interplay between the elements of water, concrete, and sky. Good thing San Diego has a lot of sun! It’s a beautiful building.

Fun facts:
Jonas Salk discovered the first safe and effective vaccine for polio.

Louis Kahn used volcanic ash in the concrete mix, similar to the Roman Pantheon, giving the walls a warm, pinkish glow.

Views through the house were carefully considered in this design.

A slim window aligns with circulation and the stair beyond, creating a layered view that connects the kitchen to the landscape outside.

Simple materials. Thoughtful details.

This kitchen pairs dark cabinetry with light surfaces to create a balanced, modern workspace. Vertical tile, integrated appliances, and clean lines keep the focus on texture and proportion.

Design to reality.

This rendering offers a preview of a new home now under construction. The composition of simple forms, vertical glazing, and a strong central axis creates a modern yet balanced street presence.

Looking forward to seeing the finished result.

This stair becomes more than circulation — it becomes a light filter. Perforated steel panels soften and diffuse natural light, creating subtle shadow play that shifts throughout the day.

Warm wood treads ground the space, while the open risers and bright interior palette keep everything feeling airy and connected.

Thoughtful interior detailing allows light to move, breathe, and shape the experience of home.
en you’re in it.
