Take frequent breaks in air conditioning during these temperatures.

An Excessive Heat Warning is now in effect for the St. Louis Metropolitan Area for today through Thursday. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through Thursday for the rest of the area. Heat index values up to 110 degrees are expected in the St. Louis Metro area with somewhat lower values between 105 and 110 across the remainder of the area. Remember, the effects of excessive heat are cumulative. The longer this heat wave lasts, the more stress is placed on the body. It is recommended that outdoor activities be minimized during the hottest part of the day. Take frequent breaks in air conditioning if possible, drink plenty of non-alcoholic and non-caffeinated fluids, and wear light-colored and lightweight clothing. Above all, NEVER leave children or pets in a car without air conditioning!
