This photo is a house where the fire department had to cut the garage door down to get inside. I'm not saying it could have been avoided, but with the tech in a new opener, it may have. Most openers have WiFi technology, where once set up, you can open and close your door from your phone. At the very least, you will get a new keypad The issue here is that some companies charge their customers more for this... that's simply not true. If your "local" company is charging more for a WiFi connected opener or saying you can add a keypad to the opener for an additional $$$, well then they are screwing you. Plain and simple. Let's talk about space....some homes we build with massive amounts of dead space above the garage door opening. Sometimes 10-12 feet of floor to ceiling height but a 7foot door. Always seemed like a waste to me. Some people put shelving up there.... ok. We try to utilize that area by putting in high lift doors, or converting old doors to high lift. This gives the clients a lot more room than having the garage door 10" above their head. I've seen car lifts, workout equipment, even golf simulators!
