Happy National Dog Day to our two favorite outdoor space critics, Duke and Yuna! 🐾

We asked them what makes a backyard truly great, and here are their recommendations:

☀️ A paver patio for sunbathing and post-walk naps
🌿 Synthetic turf that stays soft and clean no matter how many zoomies happen on it
🌸 Flower beds to patrol for the neighborhood squirrel population
💡 Landscape lighting for evening sniff patrols
💦 A water feature for supervised (and occasionally unsupervised) splashing

This month's featured project takes us to a driveway that had good bones but wasn't showing off the home it belonged to....

This month's featured project takes us to a driveway that had good bones but wasn't showing off the home it belonged to. 🏡

The homeowner wanted something more refined, so we walked through several options together (concrete, stamped concrete, asphalt, pavers) before landing on Belgard Dublin Cobble pavers in a Victorian color blend. 🧱

Since the driveway slopes toward the house, drainage was a big piece of the plan too. We upgraded the old system with a heavy-duty channel drain to keep water moving away from the home during heavy rain.

The front entry got a porcelain overlay, the edges were finished clean, and low-voltage lighting was added to bring warmth after dark.

A gravel walkway using the homeowner's own natural stone finished off the lower lawn access.

A few of these photos are brand new, but honestly, you probably can't tell which ones.
