Is your lawn feeling spongy underfoot? It may not be from rain.

The European Chafer Beetle has made its way to our area, and it can take down a healthy lawn faster than you'd expect. These pests live in the soil and feed on grass roots, leaving your yard wide open to damage and wildlife digging.

There are a few things worth watching for. Spongy or "springy" turf underfoot is one of the first signs, along with grass that peels back like a carpet when you grab it. You might also notice raccoons, skunks, or crows digging up sections of your yard, or sudden brown patches appearing seemingly overnight.

Quick test: Grab a small section of grass and give it a gentle tug. If it lifts with little to no resistance, that's a major red flag. The sooner this is caught, the better the outcome.
