As the weather starts to cool down, we are going to have to switch from log home maintenance work to weaterization. We will still be able to do log replacement, but soon exterior staining will be out of the question.

A large amount of air was comeing in around a shower stall during a blower door test. Upon further investigation in the crawlspace, I found this large hole in the subfloor under the shower. In the winter, warm air escapes through upper leaks pulling cold air in through lower leaks such as these. In the summer, the opposite occurs.

When this house was c***ked, the applicators used cement c***king instead of synthetic. Cement does not flex, so when the logs started to dry, the c***king pulled away from the logs and cracked every few feet.

Sometimes we remove the cement and install synthetic c***king. On this job, we were able to caulk all the cracks and will go over everything with c***k paint afte we stain the logs.
