Choosing Florida native plants for your garden isn't just a nod to our state's unique beauty—it's a commitment to preserving our environment! 🌱 Here's why they are so important:

1. Supports Local Wildlife: Native plants provide essential habitat and food sources for Flo

rida's birds, butterflies, and pollinators. They help maintain the natural balance in our ecosystems.

2. Saves Water: Florida native plants are adapted to our climate and soil, which means they require less water and maintenance than non-native species. This helps conserve our precious water resources.

3. Prevents Invasive Species: By planting natives, you reduce the risk of introducing invasive species that can outcompete and harm local ecosystems.

4. Preserves Florida’s Natural Heritage: Native plants are a living link to Florida’s natural history. They help keep our landscapes looking like Florida and contribute to the state's unique identity.

5. Resilient and Low-Maintenance: These plants are naturally adapted to local conditions, making them more resilient to pests, diseases, and extreme weather. Plant native, protect Florida! 🌎💚

Some people call it a w**d, we call it entertainment! The flowers of Cutleaf evening-primrose open every evening and close by noon the next day. They attract native bees, butterflies and moths. Do you have any in your yard?

Happy ! One simple yet highly impactful thing you can do to support your local biodiversity is plant native. Start small by incorporating a few native plants into your landscape and grow from there: https://www.flawildflowers.org/learn-to-grow/

Don't have the space to plant? No problem, start a pollinator pot to give bees and butterflies a stepping stone along their way: https://www.flawildflowers.org/pollinator-pot/

Why plant native? Florida native plants are adapted to thrive in our climate, conditions and soil. When regionally appropriate native plants are planted in the right places, they need less water and require no fertilizers or pesticides. This conserves water resources and keeps excess nutrients from polluting lakes, rivers and streams. They also provide vital habitat for bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects, as well as seeds, berries and insects for birds.
