Pool Equipment Cold Weather Prep-
Most automation systems have freeze protection set. The system will automatically come on when it reads a certain outside temperature (typically 34-36 degrees). The control system will most likely switch between pool and spa during the freeze protection.

Time clock systems - you can set your ON/OFF pins to allow your system to run during the coldest temperatures or you can remove the OFF pin and allow the pump to continually run until the temperatures outside warm up. Set your removed pin inside the time clock box to ensure it doesn't get misplaced/lost. You can then set the OFF pin back onto the timer for when you want the pump to normally shut off once the weather permits.

If you have an automation system, a “freeze protection” feature was most likely configured when your automation system was first installed. This feature will automatically turn on your circulation pump when a predetermined outdoor temperature is reached, often set a few degrees above freezing. Once the ambient temperatures go above the freeze protect point, your automation will return the equipment to its normal settings. Some automation systems rotate valves intermittently between “pool” and “spa” mode when it is in freeze protection so you may hear pauses when your pump is not running to rotate valves.

If your filter pump has not come on yet as temperatures near freezing, you can turn your circulation pump on from your automation system's remote, app or at the outdoor control panel by pressing the filter button. If you have a separate water feature pump, turn this on as you did your circulation pump.
If you have an Intermatic Time Clock (yellow dial), flip the silver/orange lever to the right to turn your pump on.
Running your equipment nonstop during the cold snap will protect the equipment. Running water won't freeze as we don't have the cold snap for long enough to freeze the pipes solid. Just make sure that your water level in the pool is at or above center of the skimmer so that you always have water running through your pump.
No need to turn on heaters during the cold snap.

Storm/Hurricane Preparations for the Pool:

DO NOT FULLY DRAIN YOUR POOL! By draining your pool you are giving it the opportunity to "pop out" of the ground. When the water table below the pool begins to rise there is not enough weight in an empty pool to prevent it from rising with the water table and coming out of the ground.

You can drain a few inches down, but if you opt to drain below the skimmer, make sure to turn off the skimmer to ensure the pump does not run dry.

Turn off all electrical power to the swimming pool pump, motor, lighting, chlorinators, etc. Remove all loose items from the pool area.

It is not advisable to throw patio furniture or accessories into the pool as heavy furniture and sharp items may chip and damage the pool finish and the chemicals in the water will damage the furniture.

Add extra chlorine to your pool to prevent contamination. This is as simple as dumping an extra jug of chlorine or adding a couple of floating chlorine tablets to the pool. The pool provides a handy source of water for washing and flushing if your house water supply fails.

If your pool area is screened, you may prevent costly damage to the frame structure by letting one side or removing one or two panels of screen above the chair rail to allow the wind to blow through. Do not remove the lower panels or panels overhead. Slip the pins out of the door hinges and place the doors in a protected area.

Stay safe and we will see you as soon as it's safe to be on the road again.

Wishing everyone a Happy July 4th. We will be closed July 4th, but will open for regular hours on July 5th.
