This P. hastatum ‘Silver Sword’ is finally where I want it to be in maturity and size for sale 🤩

Did you know the species name hastatum references the hastate or spear-shape of the leaf?

I swear this plant is blue but I butt heads with everyone that tells me it’s green 😤

Last photo is me enjoying the summer. Go outside. Lay in the grass. Fall asleep in a sun beam. Im loving watching the leaves come in and grass getting longer. I’m just such a fan of growth ☺️

The newest leaf has opened on this P. atabapoense since taking this photo and I must say it’s MASSIVE 🤩

Recently I’ve been having to reorganize my plants for the summer sun and I think I’ve found a few places that my aroids like.

I think the burgundy abaxial intensifies as light lessens. This plant still gets plenty of indirect light at the end of the day but whatever’s going on, this atab is here for it.
In other news, Im in the process of moving me and my houseplants into a new home. Housing in Flagstaff, Az is a nightmare and it’s a very stressful process. If you know any leads for housing here PLEASE let me know and I’ll forever be grateful 😘

The best thing about starting a new hobby is not being good at it 🤷🏼‍♂️

When I started this vivarium I expected to have everything cycled and growing in 3 months. It has now been 3.5 months and this vivarium is no where near where I want it. That doesn’t mean I’m not happy with it. But I’m learning how different a closed system bioactive vivarium is from growing potted houseplants.

1) This vivarium is constantly damp/wet/humid and it is considerably easier establishing cuttings in this environment that it is propagations/grown plants.

2) You cannot use any pest control methods as you may disrupt the (micro)fauna that live inside.

3) Your soil might be missing micronutrients. I’ve been battling chlorosis for the past 3 months and I couldn’t figure out what was happening. After tons ( and I mean TONS) of online research, I think I’m understanding the importance of micronoots such as iron, magnesium, calcium and boron. To combat this I have been giving a foliary supplement of cal-mag and FF Boomerang. It may be hopeful wishing but I think I’m on the right track to correcting this issue.

4) You need LOTS of light. Don’t skimp on your light system. Seriously.

I am so proud of this P. gloriosum. After a lengthy battle with spider mites, I cut all of the leaves of my glorious gloriosum 😰 This is the result of how hard plants will try to survive. 😌

Couldn’t be prouder 🥳

Monstera dubia has been one of my favorite aroids to ever grow 🤩

At first, this vine may seem fragile and unimportant but these deep green heart shaped leaves have better grip strength than any of my other Monstera. These appressed shingling plants hug the support their given and begin to climb up it. Some Monstera dubia will even jump off of your mount and attach to your dry wall if you’re not careful!

These juvenile leaves have grey variegation adapted to capture and focus light like a magnifying glass in low light conditions. At maturity these leaves may lose their silver variegation in favor of an all deep green leaf. Mature leaves will begin to hang from their support rather than shingle and will fenestrate.

This beautiful species is a must have in every collection 😍

Did you know that some of the most influential scientists have been in their 20-30’s when they made world changing discoveries??

What happened to the one?? 🤔🤔

There are 1750 described cactus species and 1749 of those species are endemic only to America. Only 1 species, Rhipsalis baccifera is found in Tropical Africa and Sri Lanka.

There’s a few ideas about why! Watch to find out 😉

What do you think about the Monstera siltepecana that are going on my Etsy this week?? 🤩

Like other Monsteras, M. siltepecana has very distinct differences in juvenile and mature forms. When this plant is young their leaves are small and silvery. At maturity the size of the leaf blade increased and fenestrates. This plant may or may not lose its silver coloration while maturing.

I have a pallet of these babies (and others 😉) that Im finally ready to list for sale. I expect to have them up by Thursday evening!

Keep and eye on my story for updates 🥳

How do I know what species of Monstera I have if they’re all immature specimens?? 😧

Most of the time the props that I’ve bought come with a mature mother leaf. When I start to grow them often times I will cut off the prop leaf when it’s sapped all of its energy. Starting from a node can take a long time because the plant is starting over from its simplest genetic code.

This species is M. acacoyaguensis and interestingly enough one of the leaves put out sport variegation! ‘Sport variegation’ is pigmentation changes in the leaf that are NOT conserved.

Basically: One leaf has variegation and new growth most-likely will not.

M. acacoyaguensis at maturity Can be confused easily with M. blanchetii and M. esqueleto. This massive vining variety will fenestrate at maturity and can reach sizes sometimes exceeding 33” long and 18” wide.

Just a few more Monstera to go so stay tuned 😉
