Florence Garden Club was founded 1949*****Learning and sharing all aspects of gardening, nature & marine life with the community. We have an annual plant sale & raffle on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend in May. This enables the club to provide scholarships to local High School seniors. Annual dues are $ 20
Meetings held on the 2nd Wed. of the Month, Sept-June at Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw 3996 Hwy101 N--------1P.M. Programs are open to the public.

It's phantom orchid time! Phantom orchids (Cephalanthera austiniae) can be found in humus soils in fairly mature forests from the Cascade Mountains west to the coastal mountain ranges as well as in the mountains of NE Oregon. This unusual species in unique in the Pacific Northwest as the only pure white (or creamy) orchid. Lacking chlorophyll and other photosynthetic pigments, it is a mycoheterotroph, meaning it derives all its nutrients from a symbiotic fungus.
