Nursery Closed This Week (Sept 2 - 5)

Underhill Bonsai will be closed this week while we attend the First Tropical National Bonsai Exhibition. We're honored to be part of this inaugural event and can't wait to see the amazing trees, vendors, and bonsai community gathered together.

We'll be back and re-open on Wednesday, September 9th.

Gentle, repeated movement helps “massage” a foemina branch so it can bend a little farther without forcing it. 🌿

It’s the same idea as stretching before a long run: warming the wood, easing tension, and finding that point just before the tree says enough.

Once the branch softens, wiring becomes easier and the structure begins to fall into place, with parallel branches settling naturally over time. ⏰

The journey of a Bald Cypress 🌿

This Bald Cypress is estimated to be 15–20 years old and it’s lived multiple bonsai lives. After a full reset, Evan kept one original branch that stood out and used a bamboo wedge to change its angle instead of removing it.

Why?
🌳 It had mature character
🌳 Perfect placement
🌳 And cypresses are incredible at healing scars

That little wedge created space, and in time, the tree will seal over like it was never there.

Another beautiful chapter in its evolving story. 👏
