Halberts Nursery

Halberts Nursery Landscape Shrubs: Azaleas, Camellias, Crepe Myrtles, Holly, and much more! Full service brokering available. However, their roots run much deeper.

In 1972, John and Jody Halbert started their nursery in Forest Hill, La. Jody's parents, Richard and Ruby Polakovich, began their business in 1941. With hard work and many challenges, they built a very successful and respected business. John and Jody soon followed in her father's footsteps upon returning to the area after being away for several years. With only a small tract of land, hard work and

lots of God's grace they soon began to grow. Halbert's Nursery now has grown in excess of 15+ acres in production and is still growing. Today, the third generation continue to operate the nursery with the same goal in mind, to be big enough to serve you and small enough to know you. Our customer base primary consists of independent retail nurseries, re-wholesalers, landscapers and brokers. Our product variety offers our customers an ongoing selection of the best our industry has to offer. Don't forget to come by during the Louisiana Nursery Festival to meet the family!

The third Louisiana Super Plant for 2021 (first two were Suncredible Yellow sunflower and Beacon Impatiens) is a longtime landscape favorite and native grass — Muhlenbergia capillaris — commonly known as Muhly grass. This native plant is a workhorse in the landscape, thriving in many conditions and resisting almost anything it encounters. One of the few ornamental grasses grown for its flowers, Muhly grass blooms with lacy pink flowers in the fall when most other grasses are turning down for the year. Muhly grass does well in sun or part shade, handles wet and dry soils, and is just plain adaptable. Hardy throughout the state, Muhly grass can grow 3 to 4 feet tall and spread 3 to 4 feet wide, which can be enjoyed as a single specimen or planted in bunches. Muhly grass is low maintenance, has year-round landscape appeal, and is one of the most drought-tolerant grass species available.
