🌸 Perennial Spotlight 🌸

Zoom in on this beauty! Take this as your sign to plant some lilies.

Did you know? Lilies return year after year with bigger and brighter blooms. A smart choice for long-term beauty. 🥰

A lesser-known fun fact about Lilies is that they are naturally pest-resistant. While I'm sure a lot of us deal with deer and rabbits eating our plants, lilies are unappealing to them, especially Asiatic and Oriental varieties.

Come visit us today!
We are open:
7AM to 7PM -- Monday through Friday.
8AM to 6PM -- Saturdays

🌺PLANT OF THE WEEK🌺

HOLLYHOCKS

Hollyhocks (Alcea) are classic cottage-garden flowers known for their towering spikes of colorful, cup-shaped blooms. They can reach anywhere from 3 to 9 feet tall with the proper care and while they are technically biennials, they readily self-seed, allowing them to return year after year!

🌞 Full sun (6-8 hours daily) for healthy and vibrant blooms!

💧 Young plants need consistently damp soil. Established plants can be fairly drought-tolerant but should be watered about 1 inch per week, but only when the top few inches of soil feel dry. Always water at the base!

🌱 Prefers well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, but are famously resilient and can tolerate heavy clay with the proper care!

✂ Top-heavy stalks combined with rain and wind can cause the plants to fall over. Tie stalks to bamboo stakes or trellises to keep them upright! Remove individual fading flowers to prolong the blooming season. If you do not want the plant to self-seed, cut the entire stalk back to the base immediately after flowering!

It's pollinator season! We love our pollinators and hope you enjoy them in your gardens too! Here's some fun facts about bumblebees that you may not know:

🐝 Worker Bumblebees don’t buzz about for long: the average life span is just four weeks.

🐝 Only the Queen Bee survives at the end of Bee Season (spring until autumn). The rest of the colony dies and the Queen hibernates underground for winter before creating a new colony the following year. She’s a very busy bee!

🐝 Their wings beat crazy fast: around 130 – 200 times per second!

🐝 Bumblebees are a peaceful kind of bee. They will only sting if they feel threatened.

🐝 Unlike Honeybees, Bumblebees do not die if they sting you.

🐝 Male Bumblebees don’t have a stinger at all. The stinging is all up to the females.

🐝 Bumblebees shiver to keep warm.

🐝 Bumblebees have five eyes.

🐝 They are the BEST pollinators around! They are able to fly in cooler temperatures and at lower light levels than other types of bees. Bumblebees play a crucial role in pollinating many crops and flowers!
