I bought a Dogwood seedling over 20 years ago while on a trip to Biltmore in Ashville, NC. It has moved with me from Virginia to Maryland.
It was hesitant to bloom at first. Two years ago, it decided to settle in and bloom. This year, it is just showing off.
Now that utilities are high, we are in a drought, I will place a recycled jug with holes in the bottom at the base. I'll use grey water to fill the jug when the tree shows signs of stress.
I try to practice sustainable methods in my garden. Many times I reach back to consider habits of my Ancestors shared, reflecting on the stories of how they made it through.
Its those lessons shared that will get us through.

I love Chive products. When this porcelain bird called out to me at The Philadelphia Flower Show, I knew it was mine. It has three holes for three imperfectly beautiful Camellias from my Camellia allee.
As I grounded myself this morning, a feeling of gratefulness spread through my feet upwards to my heart, causing me to smile.
Greeting each day with joy fills me up. My goal is to sow enough seed to keep my vases full and share blooms of joy with others.
Find the perfect vessel and fill yourself with joy.
Thank you Chive for creating such a beautiful vase!

While my officemates were obsessing with the weather, I was dreaming about the bud on my Buckeye. Purchased in North Carolina last fall, I ran out of time to plant it.
This will be a busy weekend. At home, gardening, and writing until...well, sometimes I get seasonally distracted, requiring me to venture out for research. We shall see...
Do you get excited about plants beginning to unfurl? Are you a member of the Seasonally Distracted Club?

Breathing...
Dreams really do come true when you least expect it! People who are connected with the earth are truly the BEST people. I am emotionally FULL after starting the day enjoying the bouquets at Bouquets to Art, meeting up with Michelle and ending up at Filoli. All this after yesterday presenting Black Flora- Inspiring Profiles of Floriculture's New Vanguard at the deYoung and dining with good company in the Fillmore District at Minnie Bells Soul Movement.
The joy I feel at this moment is surreal.

Sometimes there are signs that let us know its going to be alright. Yesterday, there was a definite sign. The Amaryllis in the second pot opened not one bloom but two, with two more swelling up to open AND two more stalks emerging with a swelling bud at the tip.
This is why I hold off pulling them out from their dark quarters in the basement until after Christmas. The white blooms are a sign of life. I am grateful!

Gina and I are so excited to present at the 2026 Bouquets to Art! Feel free to share and attend!
