I bought a Dogwood seedling over 20 years ago while on a trip to Biltmore in Ashville, NC. It has moved with me from Virginia to Maryland.
It was hesitant to bloom at first. Two years ago, it decided to settle in and bloom. This year, it is just showing off.
Now that utilities are high, we are in a drought, I will place a recycled jug with holes in the bottom at the base. I'll use grey water to fill the jug when the tree shows signs of stress.
I try to practice sustainable methods in my garden. Many times I reach back to consider habits of my Ancestors shared, reflecting on the stories of how they made it through.
Its those lessons shared that will get us through.
