au workshop We create urban civic and commercial projects that sustainably invigorate neighborhoods and cities

[au]workshop architects+urbanists create quality, authentic architecture and catalytic urban, civic and commercial work with a focus on projects that sustainably invigorate neighborhoods and cities. With active architecture and master planning projects throughout the western United States and Asia, architects Randy Shortridge and Jason Kersley founded the firm in 2013 after a combined 40 years of

experience locally, nationally and internationally in a wide variety of typologies. Helping clients realize their visions, striving to add value by elegantly organizing uses, creating great places and developing cost conscious design strategies are the basis of [au]workshop’s mission. Among [au]workshop’s active design projects are River District Block One, a new downtown mixed-use headquarters for Encompass Technologies in Fort Collins, Colorado that also includes residential and restaurant space on the banks of the Poudre River; Union Village, a 118 unit residential/mixed use project in Pasadena, California’s theater district; a prototype for Bank of the Rio Grande; the office headquarters of Strategic Growth Bancorp, both in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a Civic Center Vision Plan and office buildings for the City of Fort Collins. Current international projects include Em Quartier a 2.5 million square foot urban retail and entertainment destination linked to a sky train station under construction in Bangkok, Thailand and two currently confidential multi-million square foot retail and mixed-use projects in the early design stages, also in Bangkok.

2025 took us around the world. We spent time in Asia, Europe, and the South Pacific — exchanging ideas, soaking in place, and bringing fresh perspectives back to our work. Back home, we were engaged in designing structures that enrich public spaces and collaborating with peers on an innovative building that pushes our collective thinking forward.

Alongside these projects, we were committed to meaningful community involvement — volunteering our time, listening, and building relationships that matter.

Thank you to everyone we’ve worked with, learned from, and spent time alongside this past year. We’re looking forward to what’s next!

[au]workshop is proud to announce that we have won several Urban Design Awards from the City of Fort Collins at their 2025 ceremony last week. The Urban Design Awards are given approximately every three years to promote awareness of urban design and its importance for the quality of life in the community. [au]workshop’s awarded projects this year include work in three categories:

Urban Design Plan: Phased Plan for enhancements and additions to the Fort Collins Museum of Art (MoA)

Architecture: Renovation of the 247 Linden Street Building

Urban Fragments: The entry canopy at Community Center for Creativity at the historic Carnegie Building

Huge thanks to our clients, consultants, contractors and collaborators AND to the City of Fort Collins for recognizing our work!!
