Beautiful image I captured of caterpillars of a Monarch butterfly eating Milkweed. Caterpillars rapidly devour Milkweed plants and at the end of their development, the caterpillars pupate and spend the winter in a hairy cocoon. In landscape designs, I tend to spread the Milkweed in locations where it will not stand out once the caterpillars finish feasting.

As a native plant landscape designer - mixing natives into your existing landscape helps add larval host plants and attract pollinators. This garden has a mix of flowers, seeds, water elements, fruits and native plants. The result an abundance of birds, bees, and butterflies.

The first of the passion flowers has bloomed. So many baby caterpillars are already munching on the leaves of this host plant.

Gulf fritillary caterpillars eat passion vine leaves for 2-3 weeks, growing rapidly and shedding their exoskeletons. They prefer mature leaves, but will eat other leaves if necessary.

Left: Pleopeltis polypodioides or commonly, resurrection fern, is a type of epiphytic fern that grows in a host plant. These plants tend to appear as the rains come.
