1st of 10 landscaping tips from Frank Lloyd Wright.
1. Expose the house foundation to show where it meets the ground. Although he quipped, "Doctors can bury their mistakes. Architects can plant vines." Wright particularly disliked shrubbery hiding his artistry. For example, he admired Japanese maples but he liked to plant them in other parts of the garden, not around the house foundation. To soften hard architectural lines he preferred to plant trailing vines in dish planters on pedestals and window box planters. This draping effect then helped the building blend with Nature.

If you ever have to have your home tented and you're worried about greenery near the building- 1. Nothing should be growing within the edge of the roof dripline
2. Water everything for days before the tenting!
The plants will be so full of water that they can't take up another drop of Anything!
After the tent comes off, rinse off well, any greenery that was in or touching the tent. Don't water until the plants look a little wilty. Thereafter, water thoroughly and only when the plants begin to show a little wilt.
