A dramatic before and after at our Phase II project (swipe to see the before)! We took this kitchen from sterile to warm and dramatic with the use of natural materials, moody colors and modern shapes.

Progress shot from our Phase II project showing the first wallpaper installation, this one in the Pool Bath. Vinyl wallpaper in a herringbone pattern looks great with marble-look porcelain shower tiles and “distressed” hex floor tiles for a moody, durable bath.

We’ll add a large pivoting mirror as well as art framed in warm oak to tie in the vanity cabinet.

Finds of the day for our beach house project! We never know what we’ll find but the common denominator of the stash found this weekend is wood tone - warm, honeyed pine, cherry and maple woods that all share the same vibe. The look is casual, campy, mid-century inspired and as they say in PI, “arrogantly shabby”. The details:

* Two tables, one a more rustic antique in pine and the other a 50s end table in maple, are different in design but similar in feel, scale and color
* Artwork - a cute oil of a beach scene with a good frame
* Ice bucket - surprisingly heavy, it has a campy vibe and could serve as a centerpiece
* Tennis rackets - vintage, most with traces of red remaining, will be wall decor in the bedroom with 4 twin beds and vintage red metal lockers
* Rattan tray - vintage, full of texture and can go anywhere!

The warm wood tones will be a unifying force with the white tongue and groove walls and ceilings and the blue and red color scheme we’re doing in the .

We’re breaking down a few of our project entryways designed for clients, all with different looks but the same goal - functional, stylish spaces that introduce the home’s overall style. Swipe to see adjacent spaces in the home to see how we tie rooms together using color and other elements.

Today is Entry No. 7 - the Allison Plantation Foyer. The details:

✔️ Function: Small main entry in hunting cabin; public space open to great room and stairway.

✔️ Look: Primitive, rustic, authentic, woodsy, refined

✔️ Mood: Sincere, grounded, warm, cozy

✔️ Style: Refined Primitive

✔️ Must haves: Small table drop zone and chair for seating; historic wall decor; authentic accessories.

✔️ Notable items: Butter churn vase; antique pine chest and jelly cupboard; vintage Ralph Lauren Writer’s Chair.

Find of the day! The Chinoiserie Squirrel strikes again with this set of navy bent rattan furniture for our beach house project screened porch. It only needs a little repair, paint and new cushions to look fantastic on the huge porch facing the Pawleys creek.

The vintage set includes a sofa, chair, several side tables and a game table. It will join a number of rocking chairs and a for a variety of relaxing activities.

Don’t miss the artwork (a c. 1970 poster by British artist Michael English framed in red) found at Sleepy Poet Antique Mall. It breaks one of our rules for the project art for not being “coastal-themed” but the summery, casual, kitschy iconic look is worth it!

We’re breaking down a few of our project entryways designed for clients, all with different looks but the same goal - functional, stylish spaces that introduce the home’s overall style. Swipe to see adjacent spaces in the home to see how we tie rooms together using color and other elements.

Today is Entry No. 6 - the Modern Mix (this is Phase I of our current Phase II project) Foyer. The details:

✔️ Function: Large main entry; public space open to living room, dining room and hallway

✔️ Look: Genuine, classic, mildly modern, warm, understated mix of elements

✔️ Mood: Subtle, serene, strong

✔️ Style: Eclectic Traditional

✔️ Must haves: Center table drop zone, seating, large art, natural materials, texture

✔️ Notable items: vintage urn umbrella stand, concrete and bamboo stools, natural reeded lighting, abstract art, caned settee.

A quick peek into the at our Phase II project just after installation of the black counters and backsplash. The soapstone looks great with the white oak cabinets and hardware from Bird Decorative Hardware & Bath and we’ll complete the look with a wall sconce and selected items on the shelves.

Next week - wallpaper installation for the butlery, pool bath, pool laundry and apartment bath!

A glimpse at our project after the drapery installation by Decorating With Style shows a scene in the back of the large great room, a more casual side with lots of windows overlooking the wooded yard and pool. This area has a game table and chairs from , draperies in a colorful Ikat pattern with fresh green tape trim and a seagrass rug with green cotton binding.

All were designed to complement the more formal area of the room with a velvet sofa and tribal patterned rug.

Before we start to source items for any project, we start with a furniture plan like this one showing the downstairs plan for our beach house project. The dotted line on the right side shows the wall currently separating the great room and a bedroom that will be removed to create a larger great room with two separate seating areas.

We never know what we’ll find on any given trip but today’s quick stop at a new antique spot yielded this small round coffee table, an instant “yes” when I saw the warm knotty pine and midcentury styling. I knew it would look right at home in front of the slim sectional sofa I’m planning and give the campy, casual look that we want for a 1930s inspired beach house interior. The built-in lazy Susan on top is cute and the table was a steal!

Our beach house project is in full swing and the warehouse is filling up with lots of finds. Here’s a roundup of what we picked up this week, all found at local spots and Marketplace.

The will be a rental with 6 bedrooms that will sleep 16-18, two large living spaces and one long dining area that will seat 16. That’s a lot of furniture to find! We have a few rules for our purchases and before we buy, everything must pass the following test:

✔️The look must fall under the “Old Pawleys” style - a little shabby, a little formal, a little campy
✔️Wood items and case goods must be vintage or antique and have the right look
✔️Upholstered seating will be new with super durable, cleanable fabrics
✔️Rugs should be a combination of vintage hand-knotted rugs and durable, coastal striped rugs
✔️Artwork should be a combination of canvas and prints, some good, some kitschy but all coastal
✔️Color scheme is red, white and blue with a splash of ochre yellow; wood tones are to be a medium warm pine

Next we’ll start searching the online antique sources for other needed items we can’t find locally! ⚓️
