It’s not too late to prepare for hurricane season. No need to wait days for a call back from a shutter provider, a week more for an estimator / salesman to come measure your home and then wait months for your hurricane protection to arrive and be installed on your home.

We are efficient, we are nimble, we are flexible. Often calls are answered by the operator of the business Dave, on the spot.

You can call, text or email. With just a little effort you can save a lot of time and money. Just measure your window and door openings the width and height in inches. Take a photo from the outside of each window and door. We have a “self planning sheet” to ease the process. Email, text or WhatsApp us this information. We have helped many people this way.

Get your pricing information in a day or two. Once you approve the job and put half down, we will have your order ready in about a week in most cases. We do not install, we provide a list of those that install for others or use your favorite tradesman.

Basic Information About Storm Panels

Many people are of the opinion that hurricane storm panels are the most cost effective storm protection available.

Hurricane storm panels are much lighter and stronger than plywood. Hurricane storm panels take just a fraction of the space of plywood in storage. Storm panels don’t attract moisture and insects as plywood does.

Hurricane storm panels are generally made of corrugated galvanized steel or aluminum. Galvanized storm panels weigh only about 2 pounds per foot of length, so one 5 foot long storm panel weighs only about 10 pounds. Aluminum panels weigh about 20% less than galvanized storm panels although they are more expensive.

Hurricane storm panels are generally available 28 inches to 136 inches long. Storm panels are about 14 inches to 16 inches wide individually and cover about 12-13 inches each when installed and overlapped with the adjoining storm panels

Hurricane storm panels are measured end to end rather than hole to hole unless specified as such. The hole to hole measurement is generally 2 inches less than the end to end measurement of each panel.

Hurricane storm panels are sold by the linear foot. For example a 4 foot storm panel would cost 4 times the quoted price per foot.

Hurricane storm panels to some extent are “adjustable” normally they overlap on the 2 outside holes along the edges when installed, however they can be overlapped by 50% utilizing the middle holes to “make up” half a panel.

Hurricane storm panels can be installed vertically or horizontally over the window or door openings with equal effectiveness

Many people generally add 3-4 inches to each side of the window opening for “overlap” 6 to 8 inches overall per storm panel.

Direct mount of the storm panels using anchors appropriate for masonry or wood frame buildings is the strongest and most cost effective way to fasten the storm to the building.

Aluminum brackets make the deployment of the storm panels on the building faster and easier and can eliminate most ladder work on one story buildings as the storm panels simply “slip” into the “u” or “h” shaped upper bracket and fasten into the bottom bracket with “T” bolts and wing nuts. Often storm panels are installed vertically in conjunction with the brackets. The brackets can add 40% or more to the overall cost of the job compared with direct mount.

Brackets are available flush mount and with 1 or 2 or3 inch extensions (build out) to get around window sills and other wall projections. The brackets are cut to length and available up to 20 feet long.

A home equipped with storm panels or other hurricane protection may qualify for up to 30% savings on homeowners insurance. Many home inspectors also conduct wind mitigation inspections. Once the home passes the wind mitigation inspection by the home inspector, a certificate is issued that can be forwarded to the insurance company to apply a possible discount.

The above general information about storm panels is simply that general and opinionated as well. Check with your local city or county for local codes and permitting requirements.
