Did you know the direction you mow is quietly shaping your lawn?

Most people mow the same path every single week without thinking about it. But cut in the same direction over and over, two things happen:

The grass learns to lean that way, bending and matting instead of standing upright, which leaves the lawn looking uneven.

Your mower wheels roll the same tracks every time, pressing ruts into the soil and compacting it, which chokes off water and nutrients to the roots.

The fix costs nothing: just change your mowing direction each time. An easy rotation:
Week 1, mow one direction
Week 2, turn 90 degrees
Week 3, go diagonal

Alternating trims the blades from every side, so the grass grows upright and dense, and the soil stays loose. It's one of those small pro habits that adds up to a noticeably fuller, healthier lawn.

Grass clippings aren't lawn trash; they're lawn food. Leave them on the lawn (grasscycling), and they break down in a week or two and feed the grass as they go.

Don't wait for a hurricane warning to prepare your yard.

Southwest Florida's storm season is here, and the best time to protect your landscape is before the forecast gets serious.

Prepare now:
• Have large trees professionally inspected and properly pruned
• Remove dead, damaged, or overhanging limbs
• Check trees for signs of decay
• Make sure your yard drains properly

Before a storm:
• Bring in outdoor furniture and loose items
• Clear gutters and drains
• Turn off irrigation

One important reminder: Don't over-prune or "hurricane cut" your trees and palms. Proper structure matters when strong winds arrive.
