It seems that I have gotten behind on sharing what we have been doing. So here we go! I guess that we should start from the beginning. The customer had a contractor renovate their garage into a primary suite with walk in closet and a very sizeable bathroom and large bedroom and new laundry room. So, after a couple years they weren't able to use the shower and had to deal with a bad smell to go along with that. Now begins my journey down the rabbit hole. I really did feel like Alice as we uncovered one thing that was done wrong after another. We had to completely gut out the shower. They had installed the shower pan backwards for some reason and didn't install a trap in the drain (reason for bad smell). Then we discovered that the water lines were put in with shark bites under the floor. So we had to remove the vanity and open up the floor to fix the water lines. We also moved the toilet to an alcove the previous contractor framed out some kind of silly ledge or whatever they call it. We tore that out and moved the toilet to a place that makes sense. We got rid of the shark bites and clamped the water lines together with stainless rings. We installed a new shower pan with a proper trap. We also installed a new shower mixer valve and removed the rusty galvanized pipe they used for the shower pipe. We had to sheetrock the ceiling because their mud and tape job didn't stick to the backwards sheetrock on the ceiling. During the installation of the new sheetrock we discovered that they didn't insulate the attic above the new renovation. We took a look in the attic and discovered that when they wired the new lights and ceiling fan they didn't use junction boxes for the wiring. So here we are with wires just hanging there wired up with wire nuts and no junction boxes. INSANE! Also, they ran the water lines for the new laundry room through the attic with no insulation. CRAZY! We fixed the wiring issues and wrapped the water lines with insulation. We then blew in 8 inches of blow in cellulose insulation. We also had to install blow in insulation in the walls as well. We then installed new concrete backer board in the shower and installed new tile with a shower niche. We installed new lights, faucets, shower valve, flooring and new paint. We also repaired the closet with a new custom made door. We hung new sheetrock in the bedroom, muddled, taped and textured and new paint. We installed new tile in the bedroom entry way. I'm sure that I missed a bunch of stuff. That doesn't matter though. We got it all fixed up and repaired so that they can have a nice primary suite for many years to come.
